أشياء محايدة، غير مهمة. عناصر إيمانية غير ضرورية للخلاص. في الفكر اللوثري، تُعرَّف اللفظة بأنها ممارسات كنسية لا هي مفروضة ولا هي ممنوعة في الكتاب المقدس. باليونانية: adiaphora. أنشطة لا هي أخلاقية ولا غير أخلاقية. على سبيل المثال فإن محبة القريب هي وفقًا للناموس الإلهي، أما القتل فهو جريمة ويخالف الناموس الإلهي. أما الأنشطة التي لا تقع في أي من الفئتين فهي الأشياء الحيادية أو غير المهمة adiaphora، أي إنها الأشياء غير المهمة عند الله. ومن ثم، قد يختار المرء أن يمارسها أو يمتنع عنها. من الأمثلة عليها: الأكل مما ذُبح للأوثان والاحتفال بأعياد معيَّنة مثل الكريسماس وعيد القيامة.[1]
